The global ecology and remote sensing (GEARS; https://wu-jin.weebly.com) lab at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) seeks to uncover the fundamental mechanisms that regulate vegetation-climate interactions, from leaf to global scales. We use diverse tools, including cutting-edge geospatial techniques, field observations, ecological and ecophysiological theories, earth system models and high performance computing. Our research goals include not only to advance fundamental science (i.e. mechanisms linking climate, species compositions and ecosystem processes), but also to connect advances in both science and technology to help solve several pressing environmental issues related to climate change (i.e. forest health monitoring, food security, climate change impacts and mitigation).
